Shiny Happy People. When I first heard of this documentary, I thought it might be about REM. Now that I’m halfway through it’s definitely not about the band. The behavior of the Duggars, Bill Gothard, and the entire IBLP organization is/was disgusting. The biggest issue with belief systems these fundamentalists have is: Jesus isn’t mentioned.The problem is people see this as entertainment or crazy, one-time weirdos going against the grain. That's not the case here. This could be a documentary for half the families in Arkansas. Maybe not the direct abuse, but definitively the apathy and inaction justified by the "they need prayers" narrative.

Shiny Happy People is a brilliant song even if R.E.M. disagree. Everyone thinks it's a stupid, bubblegum farty song with annoying, repetitive, squealy singing. ITS IRONIC. ITS TAKING THE PISS.
